In the late hours of a Saturday night in Magee, Mississippi, the life of 23-year-old Daryious Terrell Collins was tragically cut short. On November 29, 2025, police responded to reports of a shooting in the Goodwater community, located on the northeast side of the city. Upon their arrival, they discovered Collins with fatal gunshot wounds. He was a resident of Magee and was known for his enjoyment of singing, playing basketball, and football.
He was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church and cherished spending time with his family and friends.
Immediately following the discovery, the Magee Police Department launched an investigation, quickly identifying Jordan Jamal Brinson as a person of interest in the homicide. This initiated a tense two-day manhunt that put the local community on high alert, with authorities warning that the suspect was likely armed and dangerous. The search for Brinson extended across multiple jurisdictions, involving the cooperative efforts of the Simpson County Sheriff's Office and the Jeff Davis County Sheriff's Office.
The search for the suspect concluded on Monday, December 1, 2025. Law enforcement located Brinson concealed within an abandoned house in Simpson County. He was taken into custody without incident by the Magee Police Department and the Simpson County Sheriff's Department. Following his apprehension, Brinson was booked into the custody of the Magee Police Department. He is expected to face a murder charge in connection with the death of Daryious Collins. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the deadly shooting remains ongoing. Funeral services for Collins were later scheduled for December 20, 2025.
