In the early morning hours of November 30, 2025, a violent disturbance erupted at an apartment complex in Saint Paul, Minnesota, leading to the tragic death of 32-year-old male Tarik Hazem Hassan. Police officers were dispatched to the residence on the 700 block of North Victoria Street around 1:40 a.m. after receiving multiple reports of gunfire. Upon entering the lower-level unit, first responders discovered Hassan lying on the living room floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the
torso. Despite immediate lifesaving attempts by medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later found drug paraphernalia and signs of a struggle within the apartment, describing the location as a site of frequent disturbances.
Witness accounts provided to law enforcement described a tense environment inside the apartment, which was crowded with more than ten people at the time of the incident. According to the criminal complaint, a man identified as Spencer Curtis McAloney was present and exhibiting erratic, paranoid behavior, reportedly "tweaking" from drug use and claiming that others were plotting against him. Witnesses stated that Hassan attempted to de-escalate the situation and calm McAloney down. However, the agitation persisted, and McAloney allegedly drew a firearm and fired several rounds, fatally striking Hassan.
As the shooter fled the scene, he reportedly encountered a neighbor outside the apartment unit. Prosecutors allege that McAloney confronted the resident, pointed the firearm directly at the man's chest, and pulled the trigger. The weapon failed to discharge, allowing the neighbor to escape unharmed into his own apartment. McAloney then ran to a silver Toyota Camry parked nearby and sped away with the vehicle's headlights turned off. A police officer who was approaching the scene spotted the fleeing vehicle and initiated a pursuit. The chase ended shortly after when McAloney crashed the sedan into parked vehicles on the 700 block of Englewood Avenue.
Officers arrested McAloney at the crash site, where they recovered a handgun on the driver's side floorboard and a holster tucked into his waistband. Following the investigation, the 27-year-old Rosemount resident was charged in Ramsey County District Court with second-degree murder with intent, second-degree attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by an ineligible person. Authorities noted that McAloney had a previous criminal record that included convictions for robbery and drug possession. He was booked into the Ramsey County Jail, with bail set at $1.5 million as he awaited court proceedings.
