On the evening of Sunday, November 30, 2025, 18-year-old Oliver Sims was killed in a shooting in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred around 5:05 p.m. in the 4100 block of South Wabash Avenue, amidst a violent Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the city. Oliver was sitting inside a vehicle with two other individuals—a 20-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman—when the group was ambushed.
According to police reports, three unknown suspects approached the
vehicle on foot. At least one of the assailants produced a handgun and opened fire into the car. Oliver sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee the gunfire but lost control and crashed nearby at 31st Street and Michigan Avenue. The two surviving passengers were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center; both were treated for gunshot wounds to their legs and were listed in good condition.
As of early December 2025, Chicago Police detectives had not made any arrests in connection with Oliver's murder. No descriptions of the suspects were immediately released, and the motive for the attack remained under investigation. Oliver was one of several victims of gun violence in Chicago over the holiday weekend, which saw multiple fatal shootings across the city.
