In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025, a violent encounter unfolded along a highway in Hickory, North Carolina, resulting in the death of a young man. At approximately 2:42 a.m., the Hickory Police Department received reports of a shooting near the intersection of Main Avenue Southwest and U.S. Highway 321. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered 25-year-old Austin Lee Matthew Miller, a male resident of Lexington, North Carolina, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the arrival of emergency responders, he had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the location of the incident.
Detectives investigating the homicide determined that the shooting was the tragic culmination of an active domestic dispute.
