On the evening of December 10, 2025, a violent altercation inside a Newark, New Jersey, recording studio tragically cut short the life of 20-year-old Namir Bynum. The incident, which unfolded at the Platinum Sound NJ studio on Clinton Avenue, resulted in a chaotic scene with four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. When police arrived at approximately 8 p.m., Bynum was discovered at the scene and pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and authorities
soon charged Naim Andrews, also 20 years old and from Newark, in connection with Bynum's death. According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, surveillance footage from the studio captured the moments leading up to the fatal shooting. The video reportedly shows Andrews and another individual, identified as 20-year-old Osayuwamen Iyamu, attacking Bynum. During this confrontation, authorities allege that Andrews shot Bynum.
In a dramatic turn of events, investigators believe that after being shot, Bynum acted in self-defense, firing a weapon that fatally struck Iyamu and also injured Andrews. Iyamu was later pronounced dead at University Hospital. A fourth person was also wounded during the exchange of gunfire but was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and subsequently released from the hospital. Andrews was hospitalized for the injuries he sustained in the shootout. Following an investigation into the deadly encounter, Naim Andrews was charged with first-degree murder and related weapons offenses for his alleged role in the death of Namir Bynum. The motive for the initial attack on Bynum has not been publicly disclosed by authorities as the investigation continues.
