In the early morning hours of Friday, December 19, 2025, a dispute in the parking lot of a McDonald's in Jessup, Maryland, turned fatal, claiming the life of 25-year-old Tysean Berry. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. in the 8700 block of Washington Boulevard, where police responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Berry suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead later that afternoon.
Investigations revealed that Berry, a former standout football player at Hammond High School, had been involved in a physical altercation with a group of individuals in the restaurant's parking lot. During the fight, it is alleged that one of the individuals shot Berry. The altercation reportedly took place near the McDonald's drive-thru lane. No one else was reported injured in the incident. Those who knew Berry remembered him as a charismatic and resilient young man who left a lasting positive impact on his teammates and community.
A suspect, identified as 22-year-old Christian Kinuthia of Windsor Mill, was arrested at the scene. He has since been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault in connection with Berry's death. Kinuthia is currently being held at the Howard County Detention Center on no bond as the investigation continues. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the Howard County police.
