In the winter of 2014, a tragic event unfolded in the city of Lackawanna, a community nestled near Buffalo, New York, culminating in the untimely death of a young woman. The victim was 26-year-old Tequila Suter, a woman remembered by her loved ones as smart, kind, and caring. She was actively involved in her church and dedicated her time to helping adults with disabilities, all while pursuing a master's degree.
Her life was cut short in her own apartment on Wilkesbarre Avenue, a place that should have been her sanctuary.
The circumstances of her death were violent and brutal. On February 15, 2014, Ms. Suter was stabbed a staggering 39 times. The grim discovery was made by her landlord after concerned friends and family were unable to reach her when she failed to show up for work and church. The news sent shockwaves through her community, leaving those who knew her reeling in disbelief and sorrow.
The investigation into the homicide quickly focused on her estranged boyfriend, 21-year-old Damoni Hall. Although there were no eyewitnesses to the murder, a combination of circumstantial evidence meticulously pieced together by the Lackawanna Police Department and the Erie County District Attorney's Office pointed toward his involvement. This evidence included neighborhood video surveillance footage, cell phone tower analysis, and forensic DNA analysis. Following his arrest, Damoni Hall was charged with second-degree murder. In January 2015, Damoni Hall was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for the murder of Tequila Suter, bringing a legal conclusion to a case that left a permanent scar on a family and a community.
