On the morning of December 22, 2025, authorities in Logan, Ohio, responded to a residence located in the 1300 block of Ohio Avenue within the Shady Oak Trailer Park after receiving a call requesting a welfare check. Upon arriving at the scene around 10:55 a.m., officers from the Logan Police Department entered the home and discovered two deceased individuals.
Inside the residence, they found 30-year-old female Jordan Renae Chaffin unresponsive in the kitchen, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
In the living room of the same home, investigators located the body of her husband, Coty J. Chaffin. He was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a 9mm handgun was recovered in close proximity to his body. Law enforcement officials secured the scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Based on evidence collected at the residence and subsequent interviews, police determined that the incident was a murder-suicide. The investigation concluded that Coty Chaffin shot his wife before taking his own life.
The couple’s 7-year-old daughter was not present at the home during the time of the incident and was subsequently placed in the care of surviving family members. Because the sole suspect in the homicide, Coty Chaffin, died at the scene, there were no arrests or criminal charges filed in connection with the case. The Logan Police Department later issued statements expressing condolences to the family and the young child left behind, while the case was closed following the determination of the sequence of events.
