Daquindrick Blackmon, a 29-year-old Black African American man, was shot outside his home on Springdale Road in Lancaster, South Carolina, in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 23, 2025. According to investigators, he had stepped outside with his girlfriend when a young man approached on foot and began a brief conversation with them in the driveway area. Moments later, the visitor produced a handgun and fired multiple shots; two of the rounds struck Blackmon, causing critical injuries.
His girlfriend and another resident rushed him by vehicle to a nearby medical facility, from which he was airlifted to a hospital in North Carolina, where he died of his wounds later that same day.
Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the home shortly before 3:00 a.m. and cordoned off the scene while the crime scene unit documented evidence and interviewed witnesses. Authorities deployed a drone, a K-9 tracking team, and a SWAT unit to search the surrounding neighborhood. A K-9 track led investigators from Springdale Road through several blocks to a house on 8th Street, where deputies recovered a pistol and additional items believed to be connected to the shooting. At that address, relatives told deputies that 17-year-old Ramon Omar Pyatt had left the home shortly before the gunfire and returned with a cut on his face and scratches on his arms.
Pyatt was detained at the residence while medical personnel treated his injuries, then taken into custody and later booked into the Lancaster County Detention Center. He has been formally charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and court records indicate that bond was denied during an initial appearance, leaving him jailed while the case moves forward. The sheriff has publicly expressed condolences to Blackmon’s family and emphasized that, even with an arrest, the investigation remains active. Detectives believe the victim and the accused shooter knew each other, but they have not yet disclosed a clear motive and continue to seek additional information from the community.
In the days after the killing, Blackmon was remembered in online obituaries and memorial pages as a real person lost to gun violence rather than just a statistic, with friends and family invited to share memories, light virtual candles, and attend services at Crawford Funeral Home in Lancaster in early December 2025.
