In the late afternoon of November 14, 2025, a visit to so-called friends turned fatal for Darrell McBride, a 37-year-old male from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. McBride had driven to the 2700 block of Lorraine Street with the intention of selling some personal items. Instead of a simple transaction, he was met with a brutal ambush. A group of approximately ten men surrounded the vehicle McBride was in, forcibly removed him, and began to viciously assault him.
The situation escalated quickly as
McBride tried to flee the violent mob. He managed to break away but stumbled and fell in a nearby driveway. As he lay on the ground, one of the assailants pulled out a handgun and shot him. The savage attack didn't stop there; at least one of the men allegedly continued to beat McBride even after he had been shot. First responders found him down in the roadway and rushed him to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his gunshot wound. His mother, Lori Patterson, later lamented that her son had trusted these individuals, believing they were his friends, despite her warnings.
The investigation into the homicide led Baton Rouge Police to identify and arrest three suspects in the following months. In December 2025, with the help of the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, detectives apprehended 39-year-old Raydrick Sterling. Video surveillance reportedly showed Sterling beating McBride with an object resembling a pipe. By January 2026, a second suspect, 39-year-old Christopher Andrews, was also in custody.
Later that same month, a third man, 43-year-old Damian Drake, was arrested. According to witness statements and video evidence, Drake, who has a paralyzed arm, actively participated in the beating, using his functioning arm to strike McBride both before and after the fatal shot was fired. All three men—Sterling, Andrews, and Drake—were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and face charges of second-degree murder for their alleged roles in the violent death of Darrell McBride.
