In the late autumn of 2025, a life was tragically cut short in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Taha Ibrahim Tahanur, a 33-year-old man, died on November 17th after a brutal beating. His sister described him as a brilliant and driven individual, the smartest person she knew, who had graduated high school and started college at the young age of 17.
The events leading to Tahanur's death began with a physical altercation outside a residence on Dunleith Court. According to arrest warrants, an argument escalated, and a man named Justin Scott Waters allegedly slammed Tahanur to the ground and repeatedly punched him in the face. Witnesses reported seeing three individuals lift Tahanur into the passenger seat of his own car. Rather than seeking medical help, those involved drove him to an apartment complex on Summit Creek Drive. Tahanur was left in the vehicle, where he was later found unresponsive.
The DeKalb County Police Department launched an investigation that led to the arrests of two suspects. Justin Scott Waters, 33, of Decatur, was taken into custody and charged with felony murder. Another man, Abel Mehari, was also arrested and is facing a murder charge. For Tahanur's family, Mehari's alleged involvement was a particularly painful blow, as he had been a close friend of Taha's since they were teenagers.
Both Waters and Mehari were booked into the DeKalb County Jail and are being held without bond. The investigation into Taha Tahanur's death remains ongoing. His family, devastated by the senseless loss of their loved one, is now left to seek justice for a life they believe was stolen by so-called friends. His sister lamented that he never had the chance to get married or have children, and that they took her best friend from her.
