In the early morning hours of November 18, 2025, the life of 21-year-old Delquan Scott was tragically cut short in Springfield, Missouri. Police were dispatched to the Old Monterey apartment complex at 324 East Montclair just after 7 a.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Scott outside an apartment building, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Despite immediate efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
This violent act marked the tenth homicide investigation in Springfield for the year 2025.
A suspect, 23-year-old Deandre Jonas, also of Springfield, was identified and taken into custody at the apartment complex. Investigators believe that Jonas and Scott were acquainted with each other, suggesting the shooting was not a random act of violence. Following his arrest, Jonas was booked into the Greene County Jail as the investigation proceeded.
Court documents later revealed conflicting narratives of the events that transpired. A witness, who was Jonas's roommate, informed police that he heard a gunshot and then saw Jonas pacing with a gun. According to this witness, Jonas admitted to shooting Scott, attributing the act to 'impulsive thoughts' and mentioning his use of marijuana and inhaled nitrous oxide. The witness also claimed that Jonas asked for help in moving Scott's body, a request that was refused. Instead, the roommate recorded a video that allegedly shows Jonas placing Scott’s body into a trash bag before leaving to call 911 from a nearby location. In contrast, Jonas provided a different account to the police, stating that an unknown masked individual entered his apartment, shot Scott with Jonas's gun, and then placed the body in a bag before fleeing. Jonas claimed he did not contact the authorities because he was unaccustomed to involving the police in such situations.
Deandre Jonas was subsequently charged with several felonies, including first-degree murder, abandonment of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence. He is currently being held at the Greene County Jail without bond as the case moves through the legal system. The Springfield Police Department has encouraged anyone with additional information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
