In the quiet community of Almont, Michigan, a beloved husband, expectant father, and youth football coach lost his life in a tragic workplace shooting. Logan Welch, a 30-year-old male, was fatally shot on the morning of November 5, 2025, at Trims Unlimited, where he worked as the plant manager. The incident sent shockwaves through the tight-knit town and the neighboring community of Grand Blanc, where Welch was a well-respected figure.
The alleged gunman was identified as 32-year-old
William L. Channer III, a coworker of Welch's. Authorities reported that Channer opened fire at the manufacturing facility, striking Welch. Following the shooting, Channer fled the scene, leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash near Metamora. When confronted by deputies, Channer was shot and subsequently taken into custody.
After being treated for his injuries at a local hospital, Channer was transferred to the Lapeer County Jail. He was arraigned on multiple felony charges, including first-degree premeditated murder, felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and fleeing and eluding.
