In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Cordova, Tennessee, a residence on Manslick Road became the scene of a tragedy that would cut short the life of a young mother. On October 26, 2025, 32-year-old Yesica Giron Juarez, a Hispanic/Latina woman, was found fatally shot inside the home. Responding to reports of gunfire shortly before 3 a.m., deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office discovered Ms. Juarez on the floor. Paramedics were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Ms. Juarez, a mother of two, quickly pointed towards a domestic incident. By later that same morning, detectives had identified 33-year-old Marcus Dotson as the primary suspect in the shooting. A manhunt was initiated, involving the Sheriff's Fugitive Apprehension Team, the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force, and the Memphis Multi-Agency Gang Unit. The collaborative effort led to the swift apprehension of Dotson the following morning, on October 27, in the 300 block of Poplar Avenue near Danny Thomas Boulevard.
Following his arrest, Marcus Dotson was charged with a string of serious felonies, including first-degree murder, use of a weapon in the commission of a dangerous felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. It was revealed that Dotson had a prior criminal history, including a 2013 conviction for stabbing a witness who had testified against him in a robbery case. The case against Dotson for the murder of Yesica Giron Juarez is currently active in the Shelby County judicial system. The community has mourned the loss of Ms. Juarez, who is remembered as a loving mother, devoted sister, and exemplary daughter. Her family, devastated by the loss, has sought support to cover funeral expenses and provide for her two children, a 14-year-old and a one-year-old, who are now left without their mother.
