Elisha Gilbert, 20, a Black male from Peoria, was shot while driving on the evening of October 26, 2025. Police were dispatched at about 8:18 p.m. to the 3200 block of North Isabell Avenue for reports of a man shot inside a vehicle. Moments later, officers learned the car had crashed into a traffic sign near Isabell and Merle, where two victims were found inside. Gilbert, the driver, had been struck by gunfire; an 18-year-old female passenger suffered a wound to her arm.

Gilbert was transported to a local hospital unresponsive and without a heartbeat and was pronounced dead around 8:59 p.m. The Peoria County Coroner identified him as Elisha Gilbert and determined he suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Police said the passenger’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators said there was no suspect information immediately available and asked residents and businesses in the surrounding area to review video from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. that night for any suspicious people or vehicles. As of the latest public updates following the shooting, authorities had not announced any arrests or named a suspect, and the investigation remained active.
