In the late hours of a Sunday evening in West Point, Mississippi, a confrontation at a residence on Glendale Road ended in the tragic death of 40-year-old Joshawon Ross. On October 5, 2025, Ross, a male, went to the home of his ex-girlfriend accompanied by his current girlfriend. At the time, his ex-girlfriend was inside the house with her current boyfriend, 45-year-old Dennis Roberson Jr., and three other individuals.
Around 11 p.m., Ross began banging on the door of the residence.
While the specific words exchanged remain unclear, authorities have indicated that no physical fight occurred between the two men, and Ross never made it inside the house. It was then that Roberson fired at least three gunshots. Ross was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene. No one else was injured during the incident.
Police responded to reports of shots fired and subsequently arrested Dennis Roberson Jr. at the home. He was charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Joshawon Ross. Following his arrest, Roberson was booked into the Clay County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
