Shelly Perrault, 47, female, was shot on October 8, 2025, in Sugar Land after her white SUV veered off Dairy Ashford near U.S. 90. Officers and two civilians tried to save her before she was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where she died of her wounds. Police later said early talk of road rage was incorrect; the shooting stemmed from a prior relationship between Perrault and the man they identified as the gunman.
Loved ones remembered her as warm and generous, gathering days later in Missouri City to release balloons and speak about her faith and the quiet ways she helped people.
Investigators named the suspect as William Delawrence Lewis and said he and Perrault had dated on and off. After the Sugar Land shooting, he drove to southwest Houston, argued with a mechanic at a shop on Fondren, shot and killed him, then fatally shot a bystander who was recording. The rampage ended minutes later when police found Lewis dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Creekbend Drive, not far from his residence. Authorities from Sugar Land and Houston worked the scenes together and emphasized they had not identified a different motive beyond the domestic connection.
No arrests were made because the suspect died the same day. Public records and memorial notices published afterward confirmed Perrault’s identity and age, and community tributes framed her death within a larger day of violence that left three victims and the gunman dead.
