Ricardo Contreras, 36, a Hispanic/Latino male, was found just before 3 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, lying outside a West Side business in the 1200 block of Historic Old Highway 90 near Acme Road with a gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Bexar County Medical Examiner later identified him and ruled the death a homicide.
Investigators noted a vehicle believed to be his with multiple bullet holes in the windshield, and detectives began reviewing nearby security footage as they worked to determine what led up to the shooting.
According to an arrest affidavit filed two days later, the confrontation unfolded in the store’s parking lot, where Contreras was speaking with his girlfriend when her ex-boyfriend arrived and started arguing. The affidavit states that the ex-boyfriend pulled a gun and fired several times, striking Contreras in the head and back; officers recovered five spent shell casings around the lot. The document also notes prior police reports involving family violence by the suspect against the same woman and indicates Contreras was believed to be unarmed during the altercation.
By October 11, authorities had arrested 40-year-old Richardo Michael Haymon and charged him with murder in Contreras’ death. Records show he was booked into the Bexar County jail on a $200,000 bail as investigators continued compiling evidence from the scene, including the vehicle damage and shell casings described in the affidavit. The initial discovery of Contreras’ body and the medical examiner’s rulings were consistent across local reports, and a victim memorial listing corroborated the date and city of the killing.
