On the afternoon of October 13, 2025, a dispute that began on the road in Port Huron, Michigan, escalated into a fatal encounter at a Marathon gas station on Military Street, claiming the life of 30-year-old Reginald Franklin. Multiple 911 calls reported gunfire at approximately 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival, police officers discovered Franklin on the ground with gunshot wounds.
Emergency aid was rendered at the scene before he was transported to Lake Huron Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that the violence erupted from a traffic altercation that continued to the gas station. A 36-year-old woman, who was known to Franklin, followed him to the station and confronted him as he was pumping gas. The argument quickly turned deadly as the woman, identified as Amber Lee Oile of Port Huron, opened fire. According to prosecutors, surveillance footage from the gas station captured the harrowing moments of the shooting. It is alleged that the video shows Oile shooting Franklin in the head as he lay on the ground.
Amber Lee Oile was arrested shortly after the incident and was subsequently charged with open murder and felony firearm. During her arraignment in the 72nd District Court on October 15, she was denied bond and remains in custody. Court proceedings have been ongoing, with a preliminary hearing initially scheduled for November 4th to determine if there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to a jury trial. The case has since been delayed, with a new hearing set for December 2 to allow Oile's defense attorney time to review the details of the case.
