In Port Huron, Michigan, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragedy, ending the life of 23-year-old Chase Hunter Hoyt. On the night of Wednesday, September 3, 2025, officers were dispatched to a residence on 10th Avenue following reports of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they found Hoyt with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The incident unfolded at the home of his 40-year-old girlfriend, Jennifer
Lynn Goodall. The couple had been in a long-term relationship that began when Hoyt was around 20 years old. The nearly two-decade age gap was a source of concern for Hoyt's parents. The shooting occurred while Goodall's 11-year-old child was present in the house.
Goodall was taken into custody at the scene and has since been charged with open murder, felony firearm, and purchasing a pistol without a license. In a 911 call presented by prosecutors, Goodall admitted to shooting Hoyt. An autopsy confirmed that his death was a homicide.
Goodall was arraigned at the 72nd District Court and is being held on a $500,000 cash/surety bond. Following a probable cause hearing, a judge determined there was sufficient evidence for her to stand trial. A plea hearing is scheduled for February 23rd, and a jury trial is set to begin on March 3rd. If convicted of the open murder charge, she could face life in prison.
