Robert Reiling, 60, a man from Niles, Illinois, died after being shot inside a home on the 8400 block of North Greenwood Avenue on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Police were called around 5:40 p.m. for reports of a man with a gun and shots fired; officers arrived to find Reiling mortally wounded. The Cook County Medical Examiner later determined he died from a shotgun wound to the head.

Horenberger, 52, of Glenview, was charged with felony involuntary manslaughter. Authorities said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, and Horenberger was scheduled to appear in court on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
Investigators identified Reiling as the victim and noted that preliminary information indicated the men knew each other; later summaries described the killing as occurring while the shotgun was being handled recklessly. The Niles Police Department's Investigations Division, with assistance from the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, continued to work the case. No additional suspects were publicly named, and no other arrests were announced as of the dates of these reports.
