In the small town of Maringouin, Louisiana, the evening of October 16, 2025, was shattered by violence that claimed the life of 17-year-old Derrien Durell Scott. A high school student in Iberville Parish, the young male's life was cut short in a hail of gunfire in the parking lot of the Ridgewood Apartment Complex off Ventress Drive. The shooting, which occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m., left another young man, a 19-year-old, wounded but fortunate to survive his injuries after being airlifted
to a hospital.
First responders arrived at a chaotic scene to find both victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Scott was pronounced dead at the scene, a devastating loss for his family and the community. The investigation into the double shooting was swiftly undertaken by the Maringouin Police Department and the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office. Their collaborative efforts quickly led to the identification of two suspects from Baton Rouge.
Within days, authorities arrested 19-year-old Derion Rogers and 17-year-old DaQuan Causey in connection with the fatal shooting. A search of one of the suspect's homes uncovered several firearms. Both Rogers and Causey were booked into the Iberville Parish Jail, facing serious charges for their alleged roles in the violent encounter. The charges brought against them include second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and armed robbery, reflecting the gravity of the crime that ended a young man's life and left another to recover from his wounds.
