Derrien Scott, a 17-year-old Black male from Maringouin, Louisiana, was shot and killed in the early evening of October 16, 2025. Deputies and officers were called to the Ridgewood Apartments off Ventress Drive in Maringouin, where they found two people with multiple gunshot wounds; Scott died at the scene, and a 19-year-old man was rushed for treatment and later released from the hospital.
