Skyleen M. Ross, a 23-year-old Black/African American woman, died in the early hours of October 19, 2025, after a shooting in a downtown Terre Haute parking garage. Police were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. to the 600 block of Wabash Avenue, near the entrance to the garage by The Verve nightclub, where officers found Ross with a gunshot wound to the chest; she did not survive. Investigators later described her as an innocent bystander who had been out with friends before the gunfire erupted.
