On July 9, 2025, deputies were sent to Shabur Avenue in the Otter Creek Township area north of Terre Haute after a call initially described as a possible cardiac arrest. They found two people in a vehicle: Kathy Ann Cunning, 63, a woman from Terre Haute, and her brother. Kathy Ann Cunning, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.
