Darryl Lamond Martin, a 48-year-old Black/African American man, was killed during an early-morning double shooting in Milwaukee on Sunday, May 25, 2025. Although the shooting occurred in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Martin as a resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The gunfire erupted at approximately 5:50 a.m. near North 35th Street and West Florist Avenue, in Milwaukee’s Fairfield neighborhood.
When authorities responded to the area, they found
that two people had been shot. Martin had suffered fatal gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, whose identity was not publicly released, was 42 years old and had also been struck by gunfire. That victim survived and was transported to a local hospital with injuries described by authorities as nonfatal.
Martin’s killing came during an especially violent Sunday in Milwaukee. Police investigated shootings at several different locations throughout the city on May 25, including incidents near 35th and Burnham, 24th and Clarke, 76th and Mill, North Dr. Lester Carter Drive and Florist Avenue, and a second fatal double shooting later that evening near Teutonia Avenue and Ring Street. Martin’s shooting, however, was treated as a separate investigation, and authorities did not publicly connect it to the other violence occurring that day.
In the immediate aftermath, investigators released very little information about what happened before the shots were fired near 35th and Florist. Police did not publicly describe an argument, robbery, confrontation, or other specific motive leading to the shooting. They also did not disclose whether Martin and the surviving victim were together when they were attacked, whether they knew the shooter, or whether more than one person opened fire.
Milwaukee police initially said they were seeking suspect or suspects in connection with the shooting. In an updated report, police described the investigation as involving “unknown/known suspect ” indicating investigators may have developed information concerning who was responsible while stopping short of publicly identifying anyone. Authorities continued asking witnesses or anyone with information to contact investigators.
By May 27 and May 28, 2025, local reporting stated that no arrests had been announced in connection with Martin’s killing. Police had not publicly released the name of a suspect, and no criminal charges, court proceedings, trial, or conviction connected specifically to his death were reported in the available coverage. Later publicly available reports located for the case likewise did not reveal an announced arrest or prosecution.
Martin’s death therefore remained publicly unresolved in the available reporting. What began shortly before sunrise as a double shooting left Martin dead at the scene, another person wounded, and investigators searching for answers about who opened fire and why. Police urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Milwaukee Police Department or provide information anonymously through Milwaukee Crime Stoppers or the P3 Tips system.
