On February 10, 2025, Olivia's life was irrevocably altered when her mother, Tranyelle Harshman, 32, shot her and her three sisters in their family home. In a chilling call to 911, Harshman reported that her daughters had been shot and that she intended to take her own life.

Olivia's older sister, 9-year-old Brailey, and her two younger half-sisters, Brooke and Jordan, who were nearly three and two years old, were found deceased inside the residence. Olivia, however, was found gravely wounded but still alive. She was rushed to a local hospital before being life-flighted to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City for specialized care due to a traumatic brain injury.
For six days, Olivia fought for her life, enduring emergency brain surgery as her family and community held onto hope. The investigation into the horrific event concluded that Tranyelle Harshman was the sole perpetrator in what was determined to be a murder-suicide. Harshman, who was reportedly struggling with mental health issues, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound the day after the attack, on February 11, 2025, in a hospital in Billings, Montana. Toxicology reports later indicated the presence of ketamine and clonazepam in her system at the time of her death. As the suspect was deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Olivia and her sisters. The community was left to mourn the immense loss of four young lives.
