Carlos Romero, 19, a man from Pleasanton, Texas, was shot and killed late on the night of August 15, 2025, during a confrontation that began as he walked with his ex-girlfriend and her brother along the 500 block of Duck Street. According to police, the ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend, 18-year-old Daniel Gonzales, confronted and assaulted Carlos Romero, 19, before the fight escalated; investigators say Romero tried to defend himself and was then shot by both Gonzales and the brother, identified as 19-year-old Seth Valenzuela. Officers responding around 11:50 p.m. found Carlos Romero, 19, with multiple gunshot wounds near Duck and Ohio Street; despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives followed leads to a residence in the 800 block of North Main Street within hours and, after obtaining a search warrant, collected additional evidence. Investigators also recovered two firearms with extended magazines, gloves, and cellphones a few blocks from where Carlos Romero, 19, was found. Gonzales and Valenzuela were arrested and booked on charges of murder and tampering with evidence; the ex-girlfriend, 17, was additionally taken into custody on a possession of a controlled substance charge. Police say the case remains active and that further charges may be filed as the investigation proceeds.
