On February 27, 2025, tragedy struck in Pleasanton, Texas, when 14-year-old Mesiah Rangel, a Hispanic male, was found fatally shot alongside his 17-year-old brother, Ray Gomez Jr. Their mother discovered them unresponsive and bleeding in a shed behind their home near the corner of 3rd Street and Pleasanton Avenue. Authorities responded to the distress call around 5:20 a.m., quickly determining that both teenage victims had succumbed to gunshot wounds.
The Pleasanton Police Department, with assistance from the Texas Rangers, launched an immediate investigation. Officers soon identified two juvenile suspects and located them inside a vehicle. Evidence found in the vehicle, as well as at two other locations across the city, linked the suspects to the fatal shooting. A possible murder weapon was also recovered. The suspects, both male juveniles, were taken into custody and charged with capital murder. They were later booked into the Atascosa County Juvenile Detention Center.
Investigators believe the suspects initially intended to rob the victims, but the situation escalated, leading to the fatal shooting. The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to process evidence and gather further details. The bodies of Mesiah Rangel and his brother were transported to the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies. The community has been left in shock, mourning the loss of the two teenage brothers.
