In the early hours of May 27, 2025, the life of 21-year-old Keivon Cash Bias, a Black / African American male, was cut short in a hail of gunfire in Auburn, Washington. The fatal shooting, which the King County Medical Examiner's Office later ruled a homicide, was the result of multiple gunshot wounds.
The incident unfolded at approximately 12:15 a.m. in the 11200 block of Southeast 323rd Street, where multiple 911 callers reported hearing several gunshots.
Upon arrival, Auburn Police officers discovered Bias suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Emergency medical aid was administered at the scene before he was transported to Harborview Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Bias succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead during surgery at about 2:30 a.m. Before he died, Bias was able to tell officers that his assailants had been in a white Chrysler 300.
An investigation into the shooting revealed a scene littered with 52 spent shell casings from three different firearms, including 9mm,. 40 caliber, and 7.62 caliber rounds. Surveillance footage from the area captured at least two individuals armed with firearms running toward the crime scene just before the gunshots were heard. Bias's girlfriend later told investigators that they had noticed a suspiciously parked vehicle, believed to be the one driven by the suspects, shortly before the attack. She also mentioned that a street gang Bias was associated with had been involved in violent conflicts with a rival gang in the weeks leading up to the shooting.
On July 2, 2025, the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office filed a first-degree murder charge against 22-year-old Kyree-Brian Amar Jackson of Kent. He was identified as the alleged driver of the vehicle used in the ambush. Investigators were able to link Jackson to the crime through surveillance video, data from an ignition interlock device in the Chrysler, and cell phone records. At the time of his arrest, Jackson was on active supervision with the Department of Corrections for previous convictions, including second-degree assault and drive-by shooting. He is being held on a $5 million bond. Authorities believe Jackson was a key participant in the homicide and anticipate further arrests as the investigation continues.
