On the evening of July 6, 2025, a young Hispanic man named Paul Jacobo, aged 18, was fatally shot in Pasco, Washington, following what authorities have described as a botched robbery. Jacobo and a friend had met with two teenagers, a 16-year-old from Kennewick and a 15-year-old. The group was inside a Jeep on the 700 block of Agate Street when the 16-year-old allegedly produced a handgun in an attempt to steal a necklace from Jacobo.
During the struggle, the handgun, which was later
discovered to not have a magazine, fell from the suspect's grasp. Jacobo managed to pick up the weapon and fled from the vehicle, running through nearby yards. As he ran, shots were fired from the Jeep, and Jacobo was struck in the chest. Despite the efforts of police and medics who arrived at the scene near North Sixth Avenue and West Agate Street, Jacobo succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in a driveway. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound.
In the days following the shooting, Pasco police arrested the two juvenile suspects. The 16-year-old, identified as Edwin J. Magana, and the 15-year-old, Moises Palomino Rodriguez, were taken into custody. Prosecutors have charged Magana with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and drive-by shooting, and he will be tried as an adult in accordance with Washington state law. Prosecutors have also filed a motion to have Palomino Rodriguez, who is also facing a second-degree murder charge, transferred to adult court. Magana has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
