On the evening of September 18, 2025, in Midvale, Utah, a sequence of events unfolded that tragically ended the life of 23-year-old Mason Snowball, a White Caucasian male from West Valley City. First responders were initially called to the scene of what appeared to be a single-vehicle car crash near Jackson Street and La Salle Drive around 8:18 p.m. Snowball was found deceased in his car, which had gone over a curb in a church parking lot.
However, upon further investigation at the scene, it was discovered that a car accident was not the cause of death. A small hole in his shirt sleeve led to the discovery of a gunshot wound, shifting the investigation from a traffic accident to a homicide.
The investigation into Mason Snowball's death quickly revealed a grim plot. Detectives learned that the suspects had intended to rob Snowball of marijuana, a plan that had been orchestrated through social media. A witness reported hearing a "pop" before seeing Snowball's car speeding through the parking lot without its headlights on just before the crash. Surveillance footage from the area captured two suspects fleeing the scene immediately after the gunshot was heard. This footage, combined with witness interviews and a deep dive into social media, began to paint a clearer picture of the individuals involved.
The efforts of the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake led to a series of arrests. The first to be taken into custody was a 14-year-old male, arrested on September 19. This was followed by the arrest of 21-year-old Christiano Antonio Madison, who was identified through surveillance video and an Instagram post where he was seen wearing the same clothing as one of the suspects. The investigation ultimately revealed that four individuals were allegedly involved, including a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old, the latter of whom police believe arranged the meeting with Snowball. Authorities stated that evidence discovered during the investigation linked the suspects to the same criminal gang. Christiano Antonio Madison was subsequently charged with murder and aggravated robbery.
