Kiran Patel, age 49, a woman from Union, South Carolina and of Southwest Asian origin, finished a long day at the family-run DD’s Food Mart on South Pinckney Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. on September 16, 2025, when gunfire shattered the night. Officers who raced to the store after reports of a man shooting at people found a window pierced by bullets, spent shell casings on the ground, and Kiran Patel, age 49, lying unresponsive in the parking lot; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
