Alexis Curtis, 48, a Black/African American woman, was found fatally wounded in the parking lot of the Shady Creek Apartments on Roosevelt Boulevard in Middletown, Ohio, late on June 29, 2025. Police and firefighters were called around 10:45 p.m.; responders found Curtis with a gunshot wound to the head, and she died at the scene. Investigators said Curtis’s husband, Tyrone A. Crawford, 35, called 911 and reported that his wife had been shot in the back of the head in the apartment parking lot. He told officers the gun discharged while he was removing a handgun from their parked vehicle after the couple had returned home. Police later alleged that Crawford ran inside and hid the firearm under a bathroom sink before it was recovered. He was arrested that night and charged with reckless homicide, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and tampering with evidence; a judge set his bond at $750,000. Authorities noted the couple had a child together.
Detectives said the case would be presented to a Butler County grand jury and that the charges could change as evidence developed. As of the initial court appearances in late June and early July 2025, Crawford remained the named suspect in Curtis’s death while the investigation continued under Middletown police.
