Mary Elizabeth Ervin, 30, female, from Hickory, North Carolina, was found dead on the evening of July 4, 2025, inside a room at the Deluxe Inn on Highway 70 SW. Officers responding to a call about an unresponsive woman around 6:40 p.m. discovered Ervin with an apparent gunshot wound and pronounced her deceased at the scene. The Hickory Police Department identified the location as 325 Highway 70 SW and opened a homicide investigation.
