In what has been described as a heartbreaking tragedy by her family, 38-year-old Whitney Resendiz was killed by her estranged husband, Eric Resendiz, in a murder-suicide on July 17, 2025, in Owasso, Oklahoma. The couple had recently separated, and Whitney had returned to their home to retrieve some of her personal belongings when the fatal incident occurred. Eric Resendiz shot his wife before taking his own life. The bodies were discovered by another individual who then alerted the authorities.
According to the Owasso police, there were no prior reports of domestic abuse involving the couple.
Whitney was a mother, leaving behind her 13-year-old daughter, Ava, whom she was raising on her own. A GoFundMe campaign was established to support Ava in the wake of her mother's death. Family and friends remember Whitney as a kind and caring person who had a special ability to make everyone around her feel important. Her loved ones have expressed their wish for her to be remembered for the vibrant person she was, rather than the tragic circumstances of her death.
