Melinda Green, 45, a White/Caucasian female, was found fatally wounded in her West 24th Street apartment in Lorain, Ohio, on Sunday morning, August 31, 2025. Police were dispatched around 6:45–7:00 a.m. for reports of an unresponsive woman and discovered her inside the residence with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Lifecare Ambulance personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly focused on events inside the home.
According to police, Green’s 16-year-old son had left before officers arrived. He was located hours later on Lorain’s west side, taken into custody without incident, and later charged with murder. Authorities said evidence recovered during the initial investigation identified him as the suspect; at that time, a firearm had not yet been recovered. He was booked into the Lorain County Juvenile Detention Home as the investigation continued.
Neighbors and friends described shock and grief as word spread through the block. A close friend remembered Green as supportive and resilient, someone who had been working to turn her life around despite past losses. Police asked anyone with information to contact the Lorain Police Detective Bureau, underscoring that, although an arrest had been made, the case remained active as detectives worked to understand what led to the fatal shooting.
