Ahlycia Brown, 22, a Black woman, was shot inside her apartment on the 2600 block of Tyrell Avenue on Youngstown’s West Side in the early morning hours of September 6, 2025. Officers were dispatched around 1:35 a.m. and found her inside the residence; lifesaving efforts were attempted but she was pronounced dead. Days later, the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office publicly identified her, noting an autopsy was conducted as the investigation continued.
Detectives described the case as a domestic homicide that unfolded within the Valley View Estates complex. Reports indicate Brown suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. The coroner’s release and subsequent coverage confirmed the sequence: the overnight shooting, emergency response, and formal identification as investigators collected evidence and interviewed those involved.
At the scene, police arrested Brown’s live-in girlfriend, Devyonna L. Taylor, 22, who was charged with murder and booked into the Mahoning County jail. Prosecutors sought and received a $1 million bond at Taylor’s arraignment, and investigators said the charge was appropriate after reviewing available evidence and speaking with her. Taylor denied shooting her girlfriend, according to subsequent court reporting.
Taylor later waived her preliminary hearing in Youngstown Municipal Court, and the case was bound over to a Mahoning County grand jury while she remained jailed on the set bond. As of those proceedings, police and the coroner’s office continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding Brown’s death.
