In the early hours of September 20, 2025, in Cleveland's Broadway–Slavic Village, Joseph Anthony Szymkowski III, 42, white male, was found mortally wounded behind a home on the 3600 block of East 59th Street. Officers had rushed to the address after a ShotSpotter alert registered multiple rounds just after 2:00 a.m.; despite aid at the scene, the 42-year-old man was pronounced dead by EMS.
