In the early hours of September 28, 2025, Zai Vyon Frederick Ocie Jackson, age 21 and male, was shot and killed in Cleveland’s Flats district. Police working the Entertainment District detail heard gunfire just after the bars closed and found Zai Vyon Frederick Ocie Jackson, age 21 and male, mortally wounded in the 1000 block of West 11th Street, outside Punch Bowl Social; EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Zai Vyon Frederick Ocie Jackson, age 21 and male.

Investigators quickly determined the violence began as an argument between two men that erupted into gunfire. In the same flurry of shots that killed Zai Vyon Frederick Ocie Jackson, age 21 and male, a 24-year-old man was also struck. Officers and EMS treated the 24-year-old, who was then transported to a hospital. Police described him as the alleged shooter and said the confrontation immediately preceded the exchange of shots.

Authorities said the 24-year-old alleged suspect was placed under arrest and remains in custody while receiving treatment, and his name had not yet been released. The scene—outside a popular venue along the Flats East Bank—was secured while detectives collected evidence and canvassed for witnesses amid a nightlife crowd still dispersing from nearby bars.

The killing of Zai Vyon Frederick Ocie Jackson, age 21 and male, was recorded among the city’s recent gun deaths, a stark addition to community tallies that have come to mark lives lost rather than headlines made. As the investigation continued, officials noted that further details, including any formal charges and the full sequence of events that led to the argument and gunfire, would be released as they became available.
