In the early hours of September 27, 2025, a Black male, Shawn Taliesin Davis II, 31, a male from Charlotte, was identified as the victim in a homicide that unfolded along the 5000 block of East Independence Boulevard in the city's Independence Division. Officers working off-duty nearby responded when shots rang out, and multiple CMPD units and crime scene personnel converged on the area.
