In the early evening of September 22, 2025, tragedy struck in the community of Mount Holly, New Jersey, when 25-year-old Andre Ross, a male resident, was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. at Mill Dam Park, near the intersection of Wall Street and Pine Street. Ross, who lived on a street adjacent to the park, suffered a single gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members described Ross as a loving and humble man with a passion for rap
music. Most importantly, he was a devoted father to a young daughter. In the wake of the shooting, his mother remembered him as someone who was striving to be a better person. The community mourned his loss, with over 80 people gathering for a vigil at the park the following night, laying down candles and flowers and releasing balloons in his honor.
The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office, along with the Mount Holly Police Department, led the investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led to a significant development in the case nearly three weeks later. On October 9, 2025, authorities announced the arrest of a 14-year-old male. Due to his status as a minor, his name has not been publicly released.
The teenage suspect was charged with first-degree murder and related weapons offenses. Following his arrest, he was held in a juvenile detention center in Ocean County to await a hearing in Superior Court. Under New Jersey law, individuals under the age of 15 cannot be tried as adults, meaning the case will proceed through the juvenile justice system.
