In the late hours of a Friday night, the life of 19-year-old Felipe Acuna, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short. On June 27, 2025, in a parking lot on Greenbrae Drive in Sparks, Nevada, what began as a large gathering of people took a fatal turn. An altercation erupted between Acuna and another individual, escalating to the point where a handgun was drawn and multiple shots were fired. First responders arrived at the scene around 11:25 p.m. to find Acuna critically wounded.
He was quickly transported to Renown Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
Felipe, a Reno resident, was remembered as a beloved son, brother, and friend who was known for his passion for cars. He was the eldest child of immigrants from Chile and was described as a protective and loving older brother. His interest in vehicles was more than just a hobby; he had turned his passion into a business, working on cars and building a reputation for himself within the local car enthusiast community. His sudden and violent death sent ripples of grief and shock through those who knew him.
In the wake of the shooting, the Sparks Police Department launched an intensive investigation. With dozens of people believed to have been present at the gathering, authorities made a public plea for any witnesses to come forward with information. A $5,000 reward was offered through Secret Witness for tips that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible. Investigators released descriptions of two Hispanic male suspects they were seeking to identify. One was described as being in his 20s with a heavy build and a buzz-style haircut, while the other was believed to be in his 20s or 30s with a thin build and shoulder-length curly black hair. A dark green, lowered GMC Sierra pickup with chrome rims and a distinctive windshield sticker was also identified as being connected to the incident.
Through tips from the community, authorities were able to locate the vehicle of interest and identify several people connected to the case. The investigation progressed, and on July 10, 2025, the Sparks Police Department, in collaboration with the Regional Crime Suppression Unit, announced the arrests of two individuals. Fahad Estepa, a 28-year-old from Reno, was taken into custody on suspicion of open murder with a deadly weapon. On the same day, 21-year-old Jonathan Reyes, also from Reno, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact in connection to the homicide. Even with the arrests made, investigators continued to seek information from the public, emphasizing that their inquiry into the events of that tragic night was ongoing.
