In the summer of 2025, a dispute that turned violent tragically cut short the life of Cortney Lamon Jackson, a 33-year-old Black/African American male from Clinton, Mississippi. On the morning of June 30, 2025, between 9 and 10 a.m., police were called to an apartment complex located on Northside Drive. Upon arrival, they found a scene marked by multiple shell casings, the remnants of a heated altercation that had escalated to gunfire.
The Hinds County coroner later confirmed that Cortney Jackson died from multiple gunshot wounds. Early reports from city officials indicated that a heated argument among a group of people preceded the fatal shooting. A car with what appeared to be bullet holes on the driver's side was seen being towed from the area as neighbors looked on. In the wake of the violence, authorities assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to the community.
Shortly after the shooting, two individuals voluntarily surrendered to the Clinton Police Department. Both were taken in for questioning by detectives as the investigation into Jackson's death began to unfold. By the next day, police confirmed that arrests had been made in connection with the homicide. However, citing the active nature of the investigation, authorities did not release the names of the individuals taken into custody or the specific charges they faced.
