In the small town of Simmesport, Louisiana, a life full of promise was tragically cut short on the afternoon of Thursday, May 15, 2025. Terryondra Deon Brown Augustine, a 22-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally wounded in a shooting that also left a teenager injured. The incident unfolded just after noon in the 400 block of North Simms Street, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.
Upon their arrival, Simmesport police officers discovered two individuals
with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both were immediately transported to out-of-area hospitals for urgent medical care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Terryondra Augustine succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim, a 16-year-old male, survived the shooting and was discharged from the hospital several days later.
The investigation into the shooting led to two arrests. The 16-year-old who was injured in the incident was taken into custody on May 19, 2025, following his release from the hospital. He was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail and is facing charges of second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
In connection with the same incident, authorities also arrested 28-year-old Kenneth Patterson. He has been charged with second-degree murder and illegal carrying of a firearm. A bond for Patterson was set at $1,500,000. The Simmesport Police Chief confirmed that the investigation remains active and that further arrests may be forthcoming as they continue to piece together the events of that fatal day.
