In the early morning hours of June 22, 2025, Prenesha Wagner, a 25-year-old female, was tragically killed when she was caught in the crossfire of a shootout in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. outside an after-hours club located in the 3500 block of Choctaw Drive. Wagner was not the intended target and was unarmed; she was attempting to flee the chaotic scene when she was struck by gunfire.
Her father described her as having a goofy and sweet side, and mentioned her love for dancing on TikTok.
The shootout was a violent affair, with investigators recovering approximately 160 shell casings from the scene. The exchange of gunfire reportedly erupted following an altercation between a group of individuals. In total, six people were shot during the incident, with Prenesha Wagner being the sole fatality. An officer who was first to arrive on the scene reportedly discharged their weapon in the direction of an armed suspect.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officials have made several arrests. A 15-year-old male was taken into custody and charged with principal to first-degree murder and six counts of principal to attempted first-degree murder. Authorities have stated that while he may not have pulled the trigger, he was present and possesses information relevant to the case.
Two other individuals were also apprehended in connection with the fatal shooting. Scott Strickland, an 18-year-old, faces charges of one count of principal to first-degree murder and six counts of attempted first-degree murder. Additionally, 24-year-old Derrick Scott was arrested and charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Scott has a prior criminal history that includes charges of first-degree murder, battery, and various weapon and narcotics offenses. The 15-year-old suspect was booked into the Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center, while Derrick Scott was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
