On the night of the Fourth of July 2025, a celebration at a home on Dave Miller Road in Geismar, Louisiana, turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 18-year-old Justin Scott, a male resident of the area. The gathering took a dark turn when an argument broke out between Scott and another individual, escalating into an exchange of gunfire that would leave one young man dead and another wounded.
Ascension Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to the shooting at approximately
10 p.m. and discovered Scott suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The investigation into the shooting revealed that the altercation involved Scott and 17-year-old Jadon Sterling of Gonzales. During the gunfire, Sterling was also struck by a bullet and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
In the days following the incident, the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the death of Justin Scott. Jadon Sterling was taken into custody after being released from the hospital and was charged with second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile. A second suspect, 20-year-old Jeremiah Brown of St. Gabriel, was identified as an accomplice who allegedly acted as the getaway driver for Sterling. Brown later turned himself in to authorities and is facing charges of principal to second-degree murder and principal to illegal use of weapons. The investigation into the death of Justin Scott is considered ongoing.
