In the small town of Church Point, Louisiana, the life of 38-year-old Jiveston Antonio Hebert was tragically cut short on July 7, 2025. Hebert was shot once in the chest on North Wilson Street, near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Church Point Police Department swiftly launched a homicide investigation into Hebert's death.
Their investigation led them to identify 26-year-old Calvin Scott, also of Church Point, as the primary suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for Scott, who is facing charges of second-degree murder, illegal carrying of a weapon by a convicted felon, and illegal discharge of a firearm. Authorities revealed that Scott is a convicted felon with a significant criminal history and a manhunt was initiated to locate and apprehend him.
This was not Hebert's first encounter with law enforcement. In November 2020, he was the subject of a two-hour standoff with deputies from the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office. Initially, he faced serious charges, including six counts of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer. However, these charges were later dropped after an investigation determined that he had not fired at the deputies. He still faced a number of other charges, including felony bench warrants, drug possession, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
