On January 28, 2025, 39-year-old African American male Eric St. Julien was fatally shot near his home at the intersection of Sunrise and North Kelley Streets in Church Point, Louisiana. The incident occurred shortly after midnight during a power outage caused by a vehicle accident that damaged a utility pole. The outage left the area without electricity for approximately three hours, disabling streetlights and surveillance cameras, which complicated the initial investigation.
