In the summer of 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the late-night quiet in a Southwest Baltimore neighborhood, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. Franklin Hughes, a 32-year-old Black male, was found suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound on the 3000 block of Westfield Avenue on the night of July 2nd. The call reporting the shooting came in at approximately 11:11 p.m., prompting a swift response from Northeast District patrol officers.
Upon their arrival at the
scene, officers discovered Hughes in dire condition. Emergency medical personnel quickly transported him to a nearby hospital in an effort to save his life. Despite their efforts, Franklin Hughes succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The cause of his death was officially ruled as a shooting.
The Baltimore Police Department's Homicide Unit has taken charge of the investigation into Hughes's death. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting.
