In the late afternoon of July 15, 2025, the life of 24-year-old DaJuad Rae’heim Townsend of Salisbury, Maryland, was tragically cut short. Known affectionately as 'Jy' to his family and friends, he was a man described as having a heart of gold and a smile that could light up any room. That evening, however, a call reporting shots fired sent Salisbury Police Department officers to a residence in the 600 block of Smith Street around 5:35 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered
Townsend in the backyard, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel were quickly on the scene and began treating him. Despite their efforts, Townsend was pronounced deceased while en route to the hospital. The investigation into the shooting was swiftly taken over by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, with assistance from the Salisbury Police Department and the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect, 18-year-old Jonathan Leross Jobe, also from Salisbury. The day after the fatal shooting, Jobe was arrested in connection with Townsend's death. He was subsequently charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and other firearm-related offenses. At the time of his arrest for the murder, Jobe was already being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center on an unrelated warrant. The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to the untimely death of DaJuad Rae’heim Townsend.
